Spring 2025 Meeting Overview

Breaking the Toxic Cycle: A Call for Global Synthetic Chemical Accountability

Our featured roundtable panel will dive into the new study, “Manufactured Chemicals and Children’s Health — The Need for New Law”, recently published in The New England Journal of Medicine. This research highlights the growing health crisis caused by unregulated chemical exposure in children, with a focus on agricultural chemicals. Our expert speakers—authors of the study—will break down the how, what, and why behind their findings, including the specific data on chemical exposure, how these toxins enter our food system through spraying and processing, and, most importantly, what can be done to reverse the damage and protect future generations through policy and action.

Key points from the new study highlighting alarming trends: Childhood cancer rates have risen by 35%, male birth defects have doubled, and neurodevelopmental disorders now affect 1 in 6 children. With over 350,000 chemicals in production, most enter the market with minimal safety testing, and children are particularly vulnerable to early exposure. The study calls for stronger regulations, independent testing, and a shift toward safer chemical practices to protect children's health and ensure a healthier future.
